Aubrey Small formed in 1969 with a line-up that featured 5 part harmonies, twin guitars & flute. Taken under the management of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, soon they were enjoying regular sessions on BBC Radio 1’s “Sounds of the Seventies” for Bob Harris & John Peel and found themselves performing at landmark venues such as London’s Marquee, Flamingo, Samantha’s, Thatched Barn at Chalk Farm & The Roundhouse with Ronnie Scott’s becoming our “second home”. They toured with Status Quo, Supertramp, Edgar Broughton, Colosseum, Hawkwind, Pink Fairies, Robin Trower and many others and signed a record contract and publishing deal with Radio Luxembourg MD Alan Keen of Louvigny Marquee. An album was released in 1971 followed by a single some months later. Recently unearthed long lost recorded material was returned to the band and a spark was reignited.
The Merseybeats are a Merseybeat band that emerged from the Liverpool scene in the early 1960s, performing at The Cavern Club along with The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers and other similar artists.
Light Over There are Rex Haberman and Aileen Henderson. Rex is a veteran rocker from Minneapolis. Aileen is a Scot whose father always had instruments lying around the house and introduced her to The Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton and Elvis Presley. Singing country from a very early age, she overcame her shyness in her teens and started uploading videos online and gained confidence from the positive feedback they generated. The two make an unlikely pair, living on different continents and being from different generations. They met through Twitter in June 2014, connected by email, then starting writing together across the Atlantic.
Harvey Kubernik is the author of ‘Heart of Gold – The Neil Young Story’. His work has been published over the last third of a century in Melody Maker, The Los Angeles Free Press, Crawdaddy, Musician, Goldmine, MIX, The Los Angeles Times, MOJO, Record Collector, Classic Rock, HARP, Discoveries, Uncut, and Hits. His print work has appeared in the book anthologies The Rolling Stone Book Of The Beats and Drinking With Bukowski.
