Interviews from 7 November include Lena Laki live in the studio, Nikki Loy live in the studio, Colin Blunstone of The Zombies, Mark Chadwick of The Levellers, along wiht James Best of Sonificade.
Lena Laki is an indie folk singer-songwriter based in London. Gigslutz made her the ‘Discovery of the Week’ in April 2016, hailing Lena as “One of those ultimately talented musicians it is essential to appreciate“, while Love is Pop (US) declared Lena’s material as “nothing short of gorgeous.” Her music can be described as dark and dreamy indie folk with a hint of jazz. Meeting with the writer Christoforos Diakoulakis was the most significant turning point in her journey. While he furnished some of her earlier songs with lyrics, Lena turned to some of his own poems to create new songs. What began as a creative partnership eventually turned into marriage, and the two of them moved to London in 2014, which proved to be the catalyst for Lena’s musical aspirations. Guitar in hand, she began gigging across various venues and slowly building a fanbase, while also joined by a number of select musicians who believed in her project. Everything had started to fall into place and it wasn’t long before she found herself in the studio. Lena’s songs themselves capture that feeling of sweet surrender, melancholic and hopeful at once, as Lena’s warm, confident voice blends each time with the lamenting violin, and heartfelt melodies bring to life tales of eerie encounters and impossible separations.
Gutsy girl Nikki Loy turned her back on heartache and a life that didn’t fulfil, and now lives on the road authentically living her dream. Snapping up a van she spotted on the way to the studio as a self-build campervan project, Nikki now ranges the UK pursuing an incredible musical journey with a new view from the window every night. While her songs are shaped by both pain and joy; there is a hopefulness and inspiration pervading these tracks which will move and motivate every listener to follow their dreams and take hold of their future happiness.
Nikki has played iconic venues such as Ronnie Scott’s bar in London and supported Shane Filan on his UK Tour.
