Interviews from 2nd November include Mike Pender of The Searchers, Jay Davies of The Hummingbirds, Jenny Darren, Rick Cassman of Straight Eight, along with Jamie of The 1865 in Southampton live in the studio.
Mike Pender is an original founding member of Merseybeat group the Searchers. He is best known as the lead vocalist on many hit singles by the Searchers, including the song “Needles and Pins”.
The Hummingbirds are a 6 piece modern skiffle/Folk outfit that hail from the shores of Liverpool, England. Heavily influenced by music from a simpler time, The Hummingbirds grew up on the streets of Merseyside, capturing that unmistakable Liverpool twang. With a unique Modern-Skiffle guitar sound The Hummingbirds give a passing nod to their Merseybeat heritage but mix it up with a Folk rhythm and Country style. Their songs reflect current social themes with Scouse wit, humour and a cutting edge.
Jenny Darren is a master of all vocal genres whose unique range & original improvisational style truly amaze. These qualities compliment an androgynous voice of undefinable ethnicity which transcends both race & gender.
Straight Eight are a ‘classic’ rock band. Their songs are hard, punchy, melodic and contemporary.
The 1865 is Southampton’s major new venue, located in Southampton’s city centre and with a capacity of more than 750 for standing only gigs.
